When traumatic events happen in our lives we feel that no one has ever felt the pain and emptiness we feel. Events during the Civil War caused this feeling for many soldiers.

I have tried to show how each generation experiences the same emotions, whether grief, love, hate, or happiness. We all have a piece of each of our ancestors, both good and bad, within our inner makeup. We pass along our love and courage and also our imperfections to the next generation. Sometimes the resentment and fear can grow to hate, but happiness prevails if we look within ourselves and turn to God for help. We must remember we are all imperfect and must rely on God to heal our wounds.
